Public Health & Safety Committee
The Public Health and Safety Committee recognizes the interrelatedness of public safety and health and provides a forum to deliberate and make recommendations on legislative and policy matters concerning both public health and public safety. The committee collaborates with municipal and state agencies, non-profits, and private sector entities to enhance community health and safety through a comprehensive approach. Specific topics include:
- Public Health: Substance misuse treatment and prevention, reduction of healthcare costs, health and safety regulations, and disease prevention and control.
- Public Safety: Crime and fire prevention, law enforcement, emergency services, administration of justice, and corrections.
The committee works directly with municipal departments including the Anchorage Police Department, the Anchorage Fire Department, the Office of the Prosecutor, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Anchorage Health Department.
