The next Regular Municipal Election will be Tuesday, April 7, 2020

Important Update regarding COVID-19 pandemic and the Anchorage Accessible Vote Centers

On March 23th, the Municipal Clerk announced that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only one of the six Anchorage Accessible Vote Centers will open as scheduled on Monday, March 30th for the April 7, 2020 Regular Municipal Election.

The City Hall Accessible Vote Center is planning to open as scheduled on March 30 as follows:

  • M-F, March 30 – April 6, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 7, 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.  

If voters have questions about voting or the election, voters should call the Voter Holtine at 243-VOTE(8683). The Call Center Team can provide voters options to vote without risking their health, the health of Election Workers or our community.

League of Women Voters 2020 Ballot Review Information

General Information

Ballot packages were mailed to qualified Anchorage voters on March 17, 2020. If you have not received your ballot package by Tuesday, March 24th, please contact our Voter Hotline at 907-243-VOTE (8683). To receive your ballot package at an address other than your Voter Registration mailing address, please fill out an Application to Vote at a Temporary Address.


Options for returning your voted ballot:

1. Return Your Ballot to a Secure Drop Box: Save the cost of postage and return your ballot to one of the Secure Drop Boxes placed throughout the Municipality. Secure Drop Boxes are open 24/7 and will close at 8:00 p.m. on Election Day, April 7, 2020. All 18 Secure Drop Boxes are open!

2. Return Your Ballot By Mail: Place the appropriate amount of first class postage on your Ballot Return Envelope and deliver it to the US Post Office. For the April 7, 2020, Regular Municipal Election, first class postage to mail your ballot with two cards is approximately $0.70​​​​​. Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, April 7, 2020. If mailing close to or on Election Day, ask a postal official to hand-cancel the envelope with a postmark.

Remember, healthy or sick, do not lick! - Please use other methods, besides licking, to seal your Ballot Return Envelope. Alternative ways include dabbing the adhesive seal with a barely damp towel, using a glue stick, or using an envelope moistener with adhesive, etc.


Election Center Virtual Tour - Take a tour of the Vote at Home process and Municipal Election Center!

The election is a Vote at Home election. Traditional polling places will not be open and are not an option for voting on Election Day.

Ballot packages will be mailed to qualified, registered voters twenty-one (21) days before Election Day. Ballot packages will be mailed to your address in the State of Alaska Voter Registration database record as of 30 days before the election.

The last day to register to vote or update your voter registration is on Sunday, March 8th, 30 days before the next regular or special Municipal election. It is important for your address information in the Voter Registration database to be current.

On Friday, November 8, 2019, the Voter Address Verification Postcard was mailed to 235,762 registered voters in Anchorage in preparation for the April 7, 2020 Regular Municipal Election. The intent of this postcard is for voter's to review their voter information. If all information is correct, there is nothing that needs to be done and the ballot package will be mailed to the voter's mailing address on the postcard. If anything does need to be updated, voters are encouraged to update through the State of Alaska's Online Voter Registration website: voterregistration.alaska.gov​.

Please note that registered voters of the Municipality of Anchorage received similar postcards in the previous two Regular Municipal Elections.

The Municipality of Anchorage recieves our voting information from the State of Alaska, Division of Elections. In order to update or to be removed from the registration records, we encourage voters to contact the State at (907) 522-8683 or electionsr2a@alaska.gov.

Candidate Information

Filing for Office for the April 7, 2020 Regular Municipal Election opened Friday, January 17, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. and closed on Friday, January 31, 2020 at 5:00 p.m.
