When will the registration portal be live and accepting registrations?
The Municipal Clerk's Office will open the STR Registration Form through a public portal on Friday, May 1, 2026. Sign up to receive a direct notification when the STR Registration Form via email: ancgov.info/register-str
What information is required in the registration?
The STR Registration Form requirements are established in Anchorage Municipal Code 10.90.020 per AO 2025-115(S-2) as follows:
- The street address of the STR
- The type of living unit (i.e. a bedroom, house, townhouse, duplex, or condo)
- Whether or not the owner resides on the STR property
- Whether or not the STR is available seasonally or year-round
- Whether or not the STR has been rented out on a long-term basis (meaning a rental of 30 days or more to the same person or people) in the past year
- The name(s) of the owner(s)
- The name and phone number of a local point-of-contact responsible for the STR
- An affirmation that the information and statement provided in the application are true, correct and complete
The STR Registration is considered complete when the owner has submitted all required information.
When is the registration valid?
The Municipal Clerk's Office will accept a complete registration and issue the applicant a registration number. The registration number is valid for one year and is due to renew annually by May 1.
What is the deadline to register my STR?
Existing or active STRs (including previously permitted Bed & Breakfasts) operating within the Municipality of Anchorage are required to register by July 30, 2026. Beginning July 31, 2026, short term rentals will not be legally allowed to post listings or advertisements on any platform without a municipal registration number.
Moving forward, any new STR is required to register before listing, marketing, or opening their unit to customers.
Where are short term rentals allowed?
STRs are permitted by right in all residential zones in the Municipality of Anchorage and some commercial zones. For more information about zoning, contact the Zoning and Land Use Division of the MOA Planning Department.
What are the responsibilities of a registered short term rental owner to keep the registration in good standing?
After receiving a registration number, the STR owner is required to:
- Provide the registration number on any listings or advertisements for the unit;
- Reflect changes to the registration information required within the portal.
