The following must be provided with your application:
  • For Each Rental Unit:
 The street address of the STR.
  • ​​The type of living unit as defined in AMC 10.90.010 (i.e. a bedroom, house, townhouse, duplex, or condo).​
    • Whether or not the owner resides on the STR property.
    • Whether or not the STR is available seasonally or year-round.
    • Whether or not the STR has been rented out on a long-term basis (meaning a rental of 30 days or more to the same person or people) in the past year.
  • The name(s) of the owner(s).
  • The name and phone number of a local point-of-contact responsible for the STR.

When will the registration portal be live and accepting registrations?

The STR Registration Form is now open! Create an account in the Cityview Portal to start your registration. 

What information is required in the registration?

The STR Registration Form requirements are established in Anchorage Municipal Code 10.90.020 per AO 2025-115(S-2)​ as follows:

  • The street address of the STR
  • The type of living unit (i.e. a bedroom, house, townhouse, duplex, or condo)
    • Whether or not the owner resides on the STR property
    • Whether or not the STR is available seasonally or year-round
    • Whether or not the STR has been rented out on a long-term basis (meaning a rental of 30 days or more to the same person or people) in the past year
  • The name(s) of the owner(s)
  • The name and phone number of a local point-of-contact responsible for the STR
  • An affirmation that the information and statement provided in the application are true, correct and complete

The STR Registration is considered complete when the owner has submitted all required information.  

When is the registration valid?

The Municipal Clerk's Office will accept a complete registration and issue the applicant a STR Registration Number in the form of a certificate delivered via email. The STR Registration Number is valid for one year and is due to renew annually by May 1.

What is the deadline to register my STR?

Existing or active STRs (including previously permitted Bed & Breakfasts) operating within the Municipality of Anchorage are required to register by July 30, 2026. Beginning July 31, 2026, short term rentals will not be legally allowed to post listings or advertisements on any platform without a municipal STR Registration Number.

Moving forward, any new STR is required to register before listing, marketing, or opening their unit to customers.

Where are short term rentals allowed?​

STRs are permitted by right in all residential zones in the Municipality of Anchorage and some commercial zones. For more information about zoning, contact the Zoning and Land Use Division of the MOA Planning Department.

What are the responsibilities of a registered short term rental owner to keep the registration in good standing?

After receiving a STR Registration Number, the STR owner is required to:

  • Provide the registration number on any listings or advertisements for the unit;
  • Reflect changes to the registration information required within the portal.

What if I currently hold a Bed & Breakfast permit?​

​The Bed & Breakfast permits will no longer be issued or valid beginning May 1. These business will need to register as STRs and the Bed Tax is still required, please contact Program Tax Department for any quesions.

If you have recently renewed your Bed & Breakfast permit and need a refund, please contact the Permit Counter​ of the MOA Development Services Division.

How do people make a complaint?

Community members may report violations of the STR Registration requirement and other code violations to the Code Enforcement Hotline at 907-343-4141 or submit a #ANCWorks request.


How to Register

​The public portal to register short-term rentals is hosted in the Cityview Portal​. In order to register a short-term rental, you must first register an account in Cityview. 


Step 1: Create Portal Account

Visit Cityview Portal and click ”Sign Up” in upper left corner (highlighted below.) Here you will create your portal account with a valid e-mail address. 

You will be prompted to provide your contact information including your address and phone number.​ You may submit multiple applications using the same account.

Your new account is pending activation. A hyperlink will be sent via e-mail to activate your account​.

Step 2: Select "Apply for a License or Registration" 

Once logged into the portal, you will click “Apply for a License or Registration"

Step 3: Complete the Short-Term Rental Application

Select “Short-Term Rentals” from the license type drop-down menu and continue through application steps 2-9. TIP: Be sure to have your State of Alaska business license number and expiration date available.

​Step 4: Submit the Short-Term Rental Application

Your application will be reviewed by the Municipal Clerk - monitor your e-mail for updates on your application​.

Once approved, your STR Registration Number will be sent to you via email in the form of a certificate.​
