Who We Are

We're a team of Anchorage residents dedicated to making our city a place of opportunity and respect for everyone. Appointed by the mayor, our nine commissioners and staff members work under Anchorage Municipal Code Title 5 to promote equality and investigate discrimination.

What We Do

AERC enforces local anti-discrimination laws covering:

  • Employment
  • Housing (sale, rental, or financing)
  • Public accommodations (e.g., businesses, services, facilities)

It's illegal in Anchorage to discriminate based on race, color, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, marital status, age, or physical and mental disability.
