Office of the Municipal Attorney
Municipal Attorney: Eva R. Gardner (appointed July 1, 2024)
The Municipal Attorney is chief legal counsel to the Municipality of Anchorage and supervises all civil and criminal legal services performed by and on behalf of the department. The Office of the Municipal Attorney has three divisions: the Civil Division, the Criminal Division (Prosecution), and the Administrative Hearings Office.
Civil Division
The Civil Division provides legal counsel, support, and advice to the entire municipal government, including the Mayor, Assembly, and all departments, agencies, boards and commissions; and represents the Municipality and its officials and employees in civil litigation.
The Vehicle Impounds desk is located within the Civil Division and assists with certain categories of impounded vehicles.
The Criminal Division prosecutes misdemeanor and traffic offenses committed within Anchorage.
The Administrative Hearing Office adjudicates certain Municipal Code violations and conducts hearings on certain appeals of administrative actions of Municipal agencies.
