The elevator inspection section is responsible for administering the inspection and certification program for all elevators, escalators, moving walkways, dumbwaiters, material lifts, platform Lifts, Stairway Chairlifts and vertically reciprocating conveyors located in the Anchorage Building safety Service Area (ABSSA). The elevator inspection section is also responsible for administering the inspection and certification program for the extended service area that includes Girdwood, Eagle River, Birchwood, Chugiak and Eklutna.
All elevators, escalators, moving walkways, dumbwaiters, material lifts, Platform Lifts, stairway Chairlifts and vertically reciprocating conveyors are subject to plan review and acceptance inspections when first installed and then subject to Periodic inspections after being placed into service. Equipment installed in private residential homes shall be subject to plan review and acceptance inspection when first installed but once approved and the installation permit has been closed the equipment is exempt from the periodic inspection requirements.
