Accessory dwelling units are attached or detached housing units on the same property as an existing dwelling. This housing type helps implement 2040 Anchorage Land Use Plan (2040 LUP) policy 4-2 to encourage innovative and compact housing types. A proposal to update ADU regulations was discussed by the Planning and Zoning Commission in the fall of 2022 and voted on by the Assembly in January 2023.

The ordinance AO 2022-107, As Amended, was adopted by the Assembly on January 10, 2023.
This case had an additional work session on January 6, 2023. ADU Dimensional Concerns.

This case will be heard by the Assembly in November 2022.
