ANCHORAGE -- Get your spring cleaning on! The Department of Solid Waste Services will host Free Dump Days April 27 and May 4 at the Anchorage Regional Landfill.
The landfill will be open to accept free garbage loads from Municipality of Anchorage residents from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturdays only.
The Central Transfer Station will be closed on Free Dump Days. Residents must take all loads to the Anchorage Regional Landfill located at 15500 E. Eagle River Loop Road. The Girdwood Transfer Station will be open for free disposal for Girdwood residents from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. April 27 and May 4.
Acceptable free loads must be less than 1,000 pounds and no larger than a standard pick-up truck. No oversize trailers or U-haul type vehicles allowed. All loads must be secured for transport. Residents with unsecured loads could face fines of up to $2,500 and possible jail time if their load causes serious injury.
Fees apply to any resident disposing of an appliance containing Freon (refrigerators, air conditioners) or for the disposal of 40 pounds or more of household hazardous waste.
Free Dump Days signal the beginning and end of Citywide Cleanup week hosted by the Anchorage Chamber of Commerce. Last year Solid Waste Services donated over $140,000 to assist in Citywide Cleanup efforts.
“We work hard to provide safe, efficient and innovative solid waste disposal to the Municipality's residents all year long," said Mark Spafford, Solid Waste Services General Manager. “We are proud to offer this well-loved community service each year."
