Municipality of Anchorage Volunteer Opportunities

Love where you live and want to make it better? Volunteer with the Municipality of Anchorage and be a part of making our community great.

Share Your Time

The Municipality relies on the time and expertise of community members to make our government run. Several departments have volunteer opportunities and there are over 50 Boards and Commission looking for neighbors to serve.

Current MOA Volunteer Opportunities - as of Spring 2026

  • Parks and Recreation - from leading classes at local recreation centers to helping keep our parks clean, there's a perfect opportunity for everyone, regardless of age or ability.

  • Adopt-a-Park - this program recruits, trains, and supports individuals and groups who want to take an active role in keeping our parks and green spaces healthy and clean for everyone to enjoy.

  • Anchorage Public Library - positions are available at all locations and include assisting with youth programs, clerical work, book sales, special events, and other projects.

  • Library Volunteens - Teens have several options for earning volunteer hours at the Muldoon and Loussac Libraries, or by reading and submitting a book review.

  • Anchorage Animal Care and Controlhas limited spots for volunteers and also accepts applications for pet foster homes.

  • Municipal Boards and Commissions - join hundreds of your neighbors in helping advise the Muni and improve processes by volunteering for a Municipal Board or Commission. With 50 different boards and commissions, on topics like parks and public transit to wastewater and recycling, there's something for just about everyone's areas of expertise. Terms are typically three years and are open each October, or to fill openings throughout the year. The positions are unpaid, volunteer jobs and most meet monthly for 1-2 hours and require a few hours of work per month outside of the monthly meetings. It's a great way to help your community, learn how the city works, connect with people who have a shared interest and build your resume!
