​​Materials Recovery Facility

The Material Recovery Facility is open seasonally and is located across the E 56th Ave. from the Transfer Station.

It will be open for the 2026 season from May 1st through October 31st.

Wood Lots

SWS operates two wood lots: 

  1. Anchorage Regional Wood Lot

  2. Materials Recovery Facility Central Wood Lot 

Both wood lots are closed until next summer.

Let's talk trash, "Trash IS Treasure!" Call 907-343-6278 and request a free tour at the Central Transfer Station, there is so much to learn about your landfill. Appropriate for Third Grade and up, that includes adults!

Lithium Battery Disposal Update:

As of March 22, 2024:  All Lithium Batteries must be disposed of at Household Hazardous Waste Facilities. Read the new SWS​ Policy, read the EPA FAQs, and the Lithium Battery Report, by the EPA. Have questions? Call our customer service team, 907-343-6250 or email swcs@anchorageak.gov
