On-Site Water & Wastewater Program

Open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m.

The On-Site Water and Wastewater Program regulates the design and installation of septic systems and water wells for single-family and duplex homes.  There are over 15,000 on-site septic systems in the Municipality of Anchorage serving more than 50,000 residents.  These systems produce an average of 4 million gallons of septic effluent per day.  The program helps make sure this effluent is treated appropriately to protect the water quality in Anchorage.  The On-site Water and Wastewater Program also actively promotes the testing and installation of innovative wastewater treatment systems.

Notice of agreement of jurisdiction of On-Site Water and Wastewater Disposal Systems

In accordance with 18 AAC 72.280, Delegation of Domestic Wastewater System Plan Review, the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation (ADEC) defers jurisdiction of on-property water and wastewater facilities serving detached single family homes and duplexes located within the Municipality of Anchorage (MOA). Please note the significant  change is the MOA will now have jurisdiction over duplexes. This updated agreement also clarifies the MOA has jurisdiction over bed and breakfast establishments. Click here to view agreement.
