Anchorage, AK – Today, Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson released a video calling on the Alaska State Legislature to commit funding to the Port of Alaska Modernization Program this year. The Port of Alaska, which serves 90% of Alaskans and is the entry point for 50% of all goods entering the state, is in dire need of repair. Due to severe corrosion, the entire port infrastructure is at risk of failure and collapse should another large earthquake strike southcentral Alaska.

“As Mayor, I will not take this risk. We're asking the Legislature to allocate $600 million to help reinforce Alaska's critical lifeline – the Port of Alaska," said Mayor Bronson. “I'm urging the public to contact their legislators today and join us as we work to save the port."

Less than one month remains before the Legislature gavels out for the year. Given constraints such as the permitting process, design and construction phases, and labor market shortages it is imperative the Legislature take action and allocate funds this year.
