Ongoing development of parcels along Potter Valley Road has resulted in increased use of Finland Street and Portugal Place road. It is the shortest distance to schools and many resources. This egress is a dangerous road with a blind turn and steep grade that is not up to municipal standards. Every year multiple vehicles go off this road. This safety issue needs to be addressed before more development increases the use of this already dangerous road.

Although the primary access of the proposed 13 lots is Potter Valley Road, the future residents will also access Goldenview Drive via Finland Street, Portugal Place, and Romania Drive on a regular basis. This route is the shortest distance to South Anchorage High School, Goldenview Middle School, Bear Valley Elementary and the hillside trails and residences. The ongoing development of Potter Valley Road parcels over the past ten to fifteen years has resulted in increased use of Finland Street and Portugal Place. Portugal Place is a steep, narrow, dangerous road with a blind corner that is not within the municipal standards. The increased pressure of ongoing development of parcels along Potter Valley Road has led to increased safety risks. The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) should improve Finland Street and Portugal Place road conditions to support the increasing residential development in the Potter Valley Road area and facilitate a road maintenance program along these pertinent egress roads for the area. I request the MOA platting committee and planning department take this increasing safety risk into consideration when approving future development of parcels along Potter Valley Road.
