| Dear friends, I have serious concerns about adding another Walmart to Anchorage. Here are a few facts which could help change your mind about supporting Walmart. (There are thousands of other facts, if you are able to search for them online and elsewhere. See also democracynow.org, or pbs.org.) The 10 sins of retail sprawl * It destroys the economic and environmental value of land * It encourages an inefficient land-use pattern that is very expensive to serve. * It fosters redundant competition between local governments, an economic war of tax incentives. * It forces costly infrastructure development at the edge of towns. * It causes disinvestment from established core commercial areas. * It requires the use of public tax support for revitalizing rundown core areas. * It degrades the visual, aesthetic character of local communities. * It lowers the value of other commercial and residential property, reducing public revenues. * It weakens the sense of place and community cohesiveness. * It masquerades as a form of economic development Also, read this from the same site, http://www.sprawl-busters.com/caseagainstsprawl.html: When Iowa State University Professor Ken Stone examined the sales changes in Iowa small towns from 1983 to 1993, he discovered "a huge shift of sales to larger towns and cities, with substantial amounts captured by mass merchandise stores." Stone estimates that the total number of businesses lost in small towns and rural areas was 7,326 in the decade studied. Iowans spent $425 million more at discount stores, but $153 million less at variety stores, $129 million less at grocery stores, $94 million less at hardware stores, $47 million less at men's and boys apparel stores, and so on. In the 11 store types studied, businesses lost more than $603 million in sales. In this ten year period, Iowa lost: 555 Grocery stores 298 Hardware stores 293 Building Supply Stores 161 Variety Stores 158 Women's Apparel stores 153 Shoe Stores 116 Drug Stores 111 Men's and Boys Apparel store Imagine what another Walmart could do to Anchorage. Thank you for your consideration, J | |

| I have relatives in the area where Walmart wishes to place another store. There are too many stores there already. I do not wish to see another Walmart in town anywhere at all. Do not give this company any city space. Anchorage would be better served to cultivate this land in developing more community, not letting a big store take out money from this community. Thank you, Rozz Lieght | |

| Please do not allow Walmart to move into Muldoon. We do not need it here. | |

| I really urge you to not allow Wal-mart to build such a large building in the Muldoon area! My Son will be going to Muldoon Middle School, this area can not handle the traffic!! I really do want my son to receive a quality education, with the ability for his parents to have access to the School!! In adition to access, people of Anchorage deserve a better quality employer than wal-mart,Walmart does not care about comunities, and rely on the government to subsidize there big buisneses!! (stop the dust bowl effect) | |

| Do not support required ROW for Patterson St because Patterson street north to E. 6th has been removed from the streets and highway map and would be a hazzard for the Creekside Park Elementary school children. Do not support removing over 16 acres of prime residential development acreage in a city that must have places for new workers to live. 20/20 plan rules that this area will increase density by 5-7 thousand units. Creating business property will further erode business property value. Eliminating residential property only makes housing less affordable in our area. The proposed use for thie area is incompatable with the schools and residential community surrounding this rezone area. Traffic problems are incompatable with the new middle school. | |
