Very excited for this plan and appreciate the emphasis on those community needs, and specifically to those three neighborhoods. YWCA Alaska works in Spenard and also holds similar community based conversations with marginalized community members and housing has been the #1 issue for us too. Folks need/want mixed use, options, and most importantly accessible (low income) housing. Excited to see this continue thank you!

There needs to be a north-south bike corridor through Midtown and Denali is a prime contender. I would also like to see enhanced bicycling and pedestrian infrastructure on Northern Lights and Benson. Too much space is dedicated to cars in what should be a thriving business district in the heart of Anchorage. It has been demonstrated that walkable streets are more economically productive (see study from Strong Towns).

Part of addressing the need for lower-middle income housing and for employees for local businesses should be making it possible for people to live with less than 1 car per resident. (Cars are expensive and take up space.) If there were safe infrastructure and more frequent transit along designated roads, particularly those that are overbuilt for the traffic they carry, it would be so much more practical. (For example folks living in the Cook Inlet Housing at Spenard and Chugach should be able to walk/bus to the center of Midtown and UMed without having to walk or stand on narrow sidewalks getting splashed by passing traffic.) It's kind of a waste to improve the non-auto facilities along high-speed corridors like NLights/Benson, A/C, Tudor, Minnesota, Swd Hwy beyond providing safe crossings because it's always going to be unpleasant to be outside a car there.
