I have lived across the street from Fred Meyer for 12 years. I don't believe this company is a good neighbor. The store generates a tremendous amount of traffic congestion, which they have done very little to abate. It is located in an already congested, busy area, and they added a gas station, which adds to the traffic congestion. When we first moved to the area, we were delighted to have a store within walking distance of our home. However, given bad experiences with the high traffic volume, filthy grounds around the store, and poor customer service, we no longer shop there. An expansion seems inadvisable for several reasons. First, the lot itself can not reasonably support a larger structure. Second, it will make traffic congestion worse in the area. I strongly oppose the expansion of a business that leaves an ugly footprint in the neighborhood and has made so little effort to improve the surrounding community.
