| I regulary shop at this Fred Meyer store and have never observed a significant availability or excess of parking spaces. On the contrary the lot always appears to be much fuller than the lots of comperable retail establishments. In addition the existing lot is poorly configured for both pedestrians and vehicles and I have witnessed many near miss accidents over the years. I have found the vehicle egress to be particulary challenging with vehicles regulary cued up several deep to get onto Northern Lights. I regulary use the exit onto the Seward Highway, the one proposed to be removed, and expect that it will be a significant inconvenience to me, and many others, if it is removed. If memory serves correct this store was significantly renovated within the past 10 years, and yet the parking area lacks the code required perimeter and interior landscaping and there is no pre-treatment of the surface runoff prior to it entering the storm water system. If it is truly believed that there is an excess of parking on the site than the additional space should be used to address the significant safety problems by improving the pedestrian and vehicular circulation, and should be used to provide the code required landscaping and storm water treatment that probably should have been provided when the facility was renovated. | |
