Anchorage Parks and Recreation

Williwaw Park Improvements

Project Overview

Parks and Recreation is constructing a new community garden at Williwaw Park in northeast Anchorage with funding from an Alaska Legislative Grant. Community gardens allow residents to grow food, herbs, and flowers, regardless of household access to outdoor space.

Williwaw Park is an 8.5-acre Neighborhood Use Park near the intersection of Pine St and Debarr Rd, west of Russian Jack Springs Park. The park was selected as an ideal garden location because of its proximity to mixed-income and multi-family housing, its central location and easy access to Debarr Rd and the Chester Creek Trail, as well as its distance from other community gardens. Garden construction will include irrigation, garden plots, pedestrian access and park amenities, and fencing to protect the gardens.
