Pena Park Improvements

Pena Park Improvements

History:

This property was acquired by patent in 1970. It is located within Centennial Park. In 1984 a ball field, parking lot & picnic shelter were proposed along the frontage road entrance. In 1986 the field & picnic shelter were dedicated after work had begun in 1984. The park was a volunteer project built by the Filipino Community. To expedite finding funding for the project they hosted the Reycards, a professional singing & comedy team for a fundraiser. They were able to raise enough money to speed the process and have their project completed a year early. The park is named for the Pena Family, a Filipino family in Anchorage.
