The past couple of years have been tough on all of us. It's time to rebuild those healthy habits, including both physical activity and mental wellbeing. Over the next year, AHD will be offering a series of 12 monthly challenges to help us get back on track.
It's time for another healthy eating challenge! 😋 For the March Get Moving Anchorage challenge, we're asking you to send us photos of THREE healthy meals. To be clear, you need to eat them too, but please take the photos first. 😉

This month's Get Moving #anchorage challenge is all about staying relaxed and well rested. ☺ We're challenging you to take some time meditate, do yoga, stretch, or get a full night's sleep (7+ hours for adults) at least four times in February!
Those who are up to the challenge will receive the February “Yogi" badge (that's the word for a practitioner of yoga 🧘♂️). Complete your challenge by submitting the form above! (Extra credit if you submit a photo of yourself in your favorite yoga pose!)
In January, we're challenging everyone to take one step to improve their financial well-being. The path you choose is up to you! For example, you could sign up for a budget app online, take a financial well-being test, meet with your company's retirement advisor, or successfully complete a resolution to limit your coffee stops to once per week. You could even meet with our WIC or ADRC staff if you're eligible for benefits!

Staying active in the winter is an important part of physical and mental wellness in Anchorage. Ice skating, skiing, ice fishing, fat tire biking – all are great ways to enjoy your weekends and evenings! For the December Get Moving challenge, we’re challenging you to get active outdoors three times this month.

The holidays are the toughest time of the year when it comes to eating healthy. This month, your challenge is to prepare three healthy meals for yourself. Don't worry, we won't be too strict, but your meal should:
This month, your challenge is to participate in a wellness activity of your choosing. An annual checkup, booster shot, dental cleaning, mammogram, yoga class, therapy session - all of these are examples of activities that improve or monitor your health and qualify you for the October Health Nut badge! Don't worry about providing proof or telling us what you did (your privacy is important to us too!). All you need to do is fill out the form above or send an email to getmoving@anchorageak.gov and let us know that you participated!
It's time to excercise your brain! For the September challenge, send us a picture of a book you've read this month. Reading selfies, fancy book cover photos - whatever you feel comfortable emailing us is fine. Fill out the form above or send your picture to getmoving@anchorageak.gov to receive your September challenge sticker.
Go on a fishing, birdwatching, or wildlife-spotting adventure and submit a photo of your outing. Send us your photos no later than August 30th to getmoving@anchorageak.gov to receive your August challenge sticker.
Visit three area parks (state or municipal) and submit three photos of yourself at the parks you visit. Send us your photos no later than July 31st to getmoving@anchorageak.gov to receive your July challenge sticker.
Plant or adopt two plants of your choice in your office or living space. Send us a photo of your newly acquired plants no later than June 30 to getmoving@anchorageak.gov to receive your June challenge sticker.
The 100 Miles in May challenge is a yearly event put on by the Alaska Sports Hall of Fame Healthy Futures program. You can a join a team or sign up as an individual. Don't worry - it's not as hard as it sounds. Almost any type of physical activity counts, from playing with your dog, to biking, to playing fitness games on your Nintendo Switch. Just select the type of activity, enter the length of time, and let the program calculate your miles.
If you're looking for a team to join, we recommend the "Anchorage Activity Allstars" (that's us!). Please note that you do NOT need to donate in order to sign up. Should you choose to donate, these funds support youth programs supported by the Alasks Sports Hall of Fame.
