Anchorage - With the start of school just around the corner, the Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) would like to remind parents to add immunizations to their child’s back-to-school to-do list.

"State law requires up to date vaccines for school entry," Melinda Freemon, Anchorage DHHS Director said. "If parents haven’t done so already, now is the perfect time to make sure their children’s vaccinations are up to date. We want parents to be aware of the importance of having their children vaccinated on time. Vaccines are a safe and effective method to protect children and their families from preventable disease."

The Immunization Clinic is open Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from  8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Wednesdays from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.  The DHHS Immunization Clinic is located at 825 L Street, on the First Floor. In addition to our regular hours, we will have extended clinic hours, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays, August 10, 17, 24, and the 31st to meet the high demand before the school year starts.

Services are provided on a first come, first serve, walk-in basis.  Cost is based on a sliding fee scale.  Children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive immunizations. Please be sure to bring your child’s shot records.

Our lines and wait times get longer as the school year approaches, so don’t delay! Parents may also check with primary care providers or local walk-in clinics for availability of school immunizations, as they may be able to make an appointment and incur less wait time.
