Municipality of Anchorage, State of Alaska to sign MOU addressing public safety

Shared resources will lead to increased prosecution of felonies in Anchorage

WHO: Mayor Ethan Berkowitz, Governor Bill Walker, Attorney General Jahna Lindemuth, Deputy Attorney General Robert Henderson, Anchorage District Attorney Richard Allen, Municipal Prosecutor Seneca Theno, Anchorage Police Department Chief Justin Doll, Assembly Member Eric Croft

WHAT: The Municipality of Anchorage and State of Alaska will sign a Memorandum of Understanding. Currently, the state prosecutes all felonies that occur in Anchorage and throughout Alaska. In order to increase the number of felony domestic violence and felony property crime prosecutions, the Municipality of Anchorage will provide two police officers to serve as investigators within the Anchorage District Attorney’s Office. A state-funded municipal prosecutor will also be cross-designated as a special assistant district attorney for these prosecutions. This partnership will leverage limited resources across jurisdictions to help make Anchorage safer. Additional details will be available at the press conference.
