ANCHORAGE – Today, Anchorage Metropolitan Area Transportation Solutions’ (AMATS) launched LinkAK (www.linkak.org); an innovative, multi-modal trip planner designed to reduce traffic congestion and travel delays.  LinkAK allows users to easily and comprehensively compare travel options and make informed trip choices in one convenient location.

"LinkAK allows us to move smarter and faster, while providing Anchorage with the kind of data that will help us make informed, fact-based transportation decisions," stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

To use LinkAK, users simply enter their trip information (A to B) and the platform aggregates and calculates the options available, time, distance, cost, and health benefits, including calories burned and carbon footprint. LinkAK incorporates transit (People Mover and Valley Mover), biking, walking, carpooling and vanpooling, and driving.  AMATS hopes to integrate more features as the platform evolves and options expand in Anchorage, including carshare, bikeshare, rideshare, rail, taxi, and paratransit trip booking.

“This tool is really the first of its kind in our state, comparing different aspects of commute information on multiple modes in just a few quick and easy steps," said AMATS Coordinator Craig Lyon. "This will be a game-changer as we work to diversify commuting behavior and meet the goals of the Metropolitan Transportation Plan."

The LinkAK platform is developed by California-based RideAmigos, working closely with AMATS staff and mapping technology leader Esri to design the best possible user experience. The interactive website is easy to use and offers mobile interface on smartphones and tablets without requiring an app. The platform sets a new standard in the industry, one that could become a model for other agencies to follow.

Commuters can start exploring their options at www.linkak.org; businesses can ask for a demonstration from the LinkAK specialist (907-343-8254) to see how they can help their employees use the new tool.
