ANCHORAGE – Today, Mayor Ethan Berkowitz announced the Anchorage recipients of FY 2017 Human Services Community Matching Grant (HSCMG) funds.   HSCMG exists to provide support for essential human and social services in Anchorage, such as basic food and shelter.

Municipalities and boroughs with populations above 65,000 are eligible for the State of Alaska grant, and must meet a 30% match requirement. A Community Needs Assessment carried out by the Municipality is used to determine where there is the most need. Projects funded must be one of the four categories: basic provision of food, basic provision of temporary/emergency shelter and related services, health support services, or protective legal services for children and adults.

"These funds help our most vulnerable neighbors have access to critical, sometimes life-saving services," said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz. "Thank you to this year’s recipients for their dedication to Anchorage."

This year’s FY17 Human Services Community Matching Grant Recipients:

  1. Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis (AWAIC)/Emergency Shelter: $149,340
  2. Bean’s Café Adult Food, Shelter & Social Services: $150,000
  3. Alzheimer’s Disease Resource Agency of Alaska/Education and Support: $50,000

"The Municipality of Anchorage’s support for this project means a great deal to families in need who otherwise would have only rare access to healthy, fresh produce."
