ANCHORAGE – During the 2015-16 school year, People Mover’s ‘Youth Connect’ program provided 67,033 free rides to Anchorage students and staff. This year the program will expand to two additional schools, as People Mover hopes to increase ridership and provide students and staff with another option to get to/from school and move within the city. Transportation support allows more students to participate in productive and healthy after school activities.

At no cost to the Anchorage School District, People Mover will accept all current Bartlett High School, East High School, West High School, Benny Benson Secondary and Steller Secondary identification cards in lieu of payment at the farebox.  The ‘Youth Connect’ Program seeks to increase bus ridership, while decreasing the need for parking on participating ASD campuses.

“This expanded use of our public transit network cultivates increased mobility, eases congestion, and decreases transportation costs for students,” stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

School ID cards, imbedded with bus passes, were delivered to the five schools today and activated for use immediately.
