ANCHORAGE – The Municipality of Anchorage and Code for America are partnering through the Code for America Fellowship Program to develop new tools to help Anchorage residents find and secure employment by breaking down logistical and technological barriers.
Code for America (CFA) selected Anchorage as a fellowship partner for 2017. CFA’s fellowship program seeks to simplify delivery of government services through the use of human centered research and design.
“Anchorage and Code for America share common goals for improving the delivery of government services – simple, effective, and easy to use; our partnership will enhance these ideals in Anchorage and serve as a model that can be replicated across the country,” stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
Initial focus will be given to neighborhoods where poverty and unemployment are higher than citywide averages, these efforts will then be scaled across Anchorage. The Municipality and Code for America fellows will research and document challenges to accessing core services, like career coaching or job training, that help residents find and keep employment. The research will be utilized to build a tool providing resources and clear process expectations for job seekers.
The MOA/CFA partnership runs through October, when a digital service tool will be launched publicly.
