ANCHORAGE – Today, the Anchorage Police Department graduated a full academy with 29 new officers headed to field training.
“I want to thank the academy staff as well as everyone in backgrounds and recruiting,” said APD Chief Chris Tolley. “Additional officers help put the department on track to engage in proactive policing.”
The 17-1 academy began in December and was the second full class APD held in 2016. The first group of 2016 recruits recently completed field training and are solo on the streets. Another academy begins mid-June 2017 and APD is currently accepting applications for a December 2017 academy.
“I want to think Chief Tolley for leading the rebuilding effort at APD, and to welcome the new officers and their families. APD is a great department, and the addition of new officers gives us a greater ability to serve the people of Anchorage,” stated Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
