ANCHORAGE – The League of American Bicyclists recently re-designated Anchorage as a silver-level bicycle friendly community.  The Bicycle Friendly Community program grades cities on bike infrastructure, planning, awareness, and enforcement efforts.

In 2016, Anchorage joined 27 other American cities in adopting Vision Zero, a commitment to eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries.  Following its launch, Vision Zero Anchorage is focused on developing an inventory of existing road conditions to identify short- and long-term safety priorities.

On Wednesday, May 17th the Anchorage bike community is coming together for the 13th annual Bike to Work Day. There are 53 treat stations to enjoy between 6-9 a.m. and 12 stations on the way home from 4-6 p.m. Visit the map of participating businesses and organizations here.

“We have a world class trail system and the more we use it the better.  It’s one of the great things about living in Anchorage,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
