Anchorage - The Anchorage Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is cancelling Thursday’s Health Advisory for Anchorage as wildfire smoke intrusion from Thursday has diminished considerably around most of the Anchorage bowl and Eagle River.

We are predicting "Good" air quality today for Anchorage and Eagle River, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) value of 40. We are predicting "Good" air quality through the weekend with an AQI value of 35 for Saturday and Sunday.

Rains have begun to fall and are predicted to be heavy at times through out the weekend for South Central. There continues to be some smoke infiltration in South Anc., Potter’s Marsh and the Hillside. Although the Air Quality Health Advisory for Anchorage has been canceled, the McHugh Creek Fire is still burning, and neighborhoods in South Anchorage and along Turnagain Arm should remain vigilant and take precautions as to fire containment activities. We advise anyone who is sensitive to smoke or pollution, especially children, the elderly, and persons with heart and lung ailments, to limit outdoor activities.

The Anchorage Health Department will continue to monitor and report conditions while there is likelihood of unhealthy air quality conditions. The current air quality forecast can be obtained by calling the Air Quality Hotline at 907-343-4899. Current state wide air quality conditions are available through ADEC’s Link to Short-term Air Quality Data for the Anchorage area and http://www.anchorageair.info/ for additional information concerning wildfires.
