ANCHORAGE – Today, Anchorage joins cities such as Louisville, Kentucky and San Diego, California in providing “open data” access to food inspection reports. Anchorage food inspection results will now be available on Yelp.com and continue to be available on Muni.org. The data is provided with a LIVES (Local Inspector Value-Entry Specification) open data source link to Yelp.

“Getting the food inspection reports on Muni.org synced with Yelp.com is a great example of the direct consumer benefits of an open data initiative,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.

Anchorage businesses will be scored on a 1-100 scale and Yelp will show the most recent score. Yelp will also include a summary of the violations for the past three years of inspections. Full inspections with all the violation details will continue to be available on the Department of Health and Human Services webpage at http://hhs.muni.org/fss/

“It’s great to see Anchorage prioritizing open data and sharing health scores for local restaurants on Yelp. Millions of people are already searching on Yelp every day for information on restaurants and other businesses, so it makes sense to bring this information to them in a channel they’re already using when they’re making a buying decision,” said Luther Lowe, VP of Public Policy at Yelp.
