Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation
Who We Are
Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation provides park and recreation services within the Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation Service Area to the residents of Chugiak and Eagle River.
Our parks service area operates under a separate budget from Anchorage, with oversight provided from a Board of Supervisors comprised of representatives from our local community councils.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for our community of approximately 35,000 residents by developing and maintaining our parks, trails, playgrounds, and playing fields.
Local community groups are an important partner in the recreation services that are provided to the community, whether that is through trail grooming or youth sport leagues.
Our Parks
Our parks include most of the parks you'd think of like Eagle River Commons Park and Mirror Lake Parks but also some facilities you wouldn't. The Mirror Lake Middle School Trails, the Chugiak High School Trails, the Mount Baldy Trailhead, and the MacDonald Center are all Eagle River/Chugiak Parks and Recreation facilities.
Our parks include:
- Over 2,500 acres of developed and undeveloped parkland across 29 park properties.
- 60 miles of single track trails, groomed ski trails, mushing, and multiuse trails, 10 playgrounds, a skate park, a bike park, 11 picnic shelters, 14 athletic fields/courts, 3 major facilities (Beach Lake Chalet, Chugiak Pool, and Harry J. McDonald Memorial Center) and 2 million sq. ft. of turf.
- We plant and maintain over 3,000 flowers each summer while coordinating approximately 100 community volunteers at 15 flower bed locations.
- We maintain safe pedestrian access to Anchorage School District sites by providing winter maintenance/snow removal along hazardous walking routes.
