At the Regular Assembly Meeting on December 19, 2023, Assembly Member Kevin Cross announced his resignation, effective April 1, 2024. The Assembly seat in which he serves, Seat A, representing District 2, Chugiak / Eagle River, will appear before qualified voters of District 2 in the 2024 Regular Municipal Election.
“What we do here on the Assembly has great importance and very few people realize the amount of work we do," said Assembly Member Cross during the meeting. “As important as our actions are, it is not why God put me here on earth. I will be going back to serving with my heart and hands at a personal level. I call it DeWalt Therapy. I will be reinvesting more time into my family and into lives of others through humble service free from politics."
“Member Cross' experience in the trades, real estate and development bring invaluable expertise to so much of our work," said Assembly Chair Christopher Contant. “It is hard work, but it is made better with his contributions. Member Cross will be sorely missed. Thank you, Kevin."
During the 2024 Regular Municipal Election, residents of District 2, Chugiak / Eagle River will elect a new Assembly Member to fill the remainder of the seat's term until April 2025. Ballots will be mailed to qualified, registered voters on March 12, 2024, three weeks before Election Day on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
Candidate filing for the 2024 Regular Municipal Election opens on Friday, January 12, 2024 at 8:00 a.m. and closes on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Filing paperwork can be found on the Municipal Elections website at www.muni.org/elections.
