Official Streets & Highways Plan
The major streets in the Municipality are classified in the Official Streets and Highways Plan (OS&HP) as collectors (class I), minor arterials (class II), major arterials (class III), expressways (class IV), or freeways (class V.) The OS&HP is available online and can be reviewed at the Traffic Department .
In the B-1A, B-1B, and B-3 districts, arterial landscaping must be planted along classified streets. In the I-1 district, visual enhancement landscaping must be planted along classified streets. Buffer landscaping must be provided for cluster housing and Planned Unit Developments. Click here to see the landscaping standards.
AMC 21.45.140 requires a development setback in addition to the zoning district setback along classified streets with substandard right-of-way dedications.
AMC 21.45.110.B allows fences up to 8 feet in height on some through lots abutting classified streets (otherwise the height restriction is 4 feet.)
Hospitals, correctional facilities, churches, cemeteries, high schools, snow disposal sites, gas stations, storage yards, mini-storage facilities, junkyards, drive-in banks, and some hotels and apartment buildings must have access to a classified street.
