Riding Guidelines
WHEELCHAIRS AND SCOOTERS
AnchorRIDES vehicles are lift equipped. Wheelchairs or scooters must fit on a 30" X 48" platform and not exceed a total weight of 600 pounds for wheelchair and passenger or AnchorRIDES may not be able to transport them. All wheelchairs and passengers must be secured with safety belts while riding on the vehicles.
Passengers who are unable to transfer to a bus seat are required to remain in the wheelchair and wear a floor-mounted over-center seat belt during the trip. Passengers are required to wear safety lap belts or personal lap belts while loading, unloading and during the trip.
Wheelchairs and scooters are required to be in good working order (e.g. functional brakes and good wheels).
Power chairs must have the power off and brakes locked when it is raised or lowered on the lift or while on the vehicle. For safety reasons, AnchorRIDES prefers that scooter users transfer to seats if possible.
SEATBELTS
All passengers and drivers are required to use a seat belt or approved child safety device. Drivers will not move the vehicle until everyone is safely secured.
TIPPING Drivers may not accept tips. We appreciate the thought and encourage you to fill out a comment card or make a donation to the program instead.
MEDICAL EMERGENCIES
AnchorRIDES drivers are certified in First Aid and CPR and passenger assistance, however they are not certified Emergency Medical Technitions (EMT's). In the event of an emergency, drivers will radio the dispatcher to call 911 for assistance and will wait for paramedics to arrive. For minor injuries or illnesses, drivers will take the passengers to the most appropriate location for care or assistance. Current emergency contact name and telephone numbers are required for all AnchorRIDES passenger files.
OXYGEN TANKS
Personal oxygen tanks may be transported but must be secured to the bus by the driver with a seat belt or wheelchair tie down. The driver will not operate the tank mechanism.
ANIMALS
Animals are not permitted on vehicles unless housed in closed containers. Service animals are allowed and do not need to be registered or certified. We request you declare to the driver that the animal is for service.
FOOD AND BEVERAGES
Passengers may not eat or drink on AnchorRIDES vehicles, except for lidded containers. Food and beverages will be allowed only in unopened containers.
SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted on AnchorRIDES vehicles.
RADIOS
Passengers on AnchorRIDES vehicles cannot operate radios, audio devices, and musical instruments unless earphones are used and the noise cannot be heard by the driver or by other passengers.
OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE/BEHAVIOR
Offensive language or behavior that is disruptive or unsafe for other passengers or the driver is not allowed. Passengers must stay seated and secured while the AnchorRIDES vehicle is moving. Be courteous to the driver and other passengers.
DRIVEWAYS
AnchorRIDES vehicles will not go in any driveway that does not allow sufficient access for a clear and safe entrance and exit. Drivers will not back on to major thoroughfares. Driveways and walkways must be plowed and shoveled during the winter months to allow for safe access and a reasonable turn around area.
FIREARMS AND HAZARDOUS ITEMS
Firearms and hazardous items such as uncovered glass, gasoline, and other flammables and explosives are never allowed on public transportation vehicles or properties. Only law enforcement officers may bring weapons on public transportation vehicles or property.
