TYPES OF SERVICE
AnchorRIDES offers a shared ride, curb-to-curb or door-to-door service and schedules the service as either demand trips or subscription trips.
Curb-to-curb A rider with curb-to-curb service eligibility meets the vehicle at the curb to board. The driver will pull up as close as safely possible at the designated location and will provide assistance from the curb while boarding the vehicle. Riders should wait in a safe area in front of, as close as possible to, or within site of the entrance of the pick-up location. Riders should remember to wear appropriate clothing and gear for weather conditions. Drivers will wait up to five (5) minutes for the rider to board the vehicle. The driver does not enter a building, or approach the door unless it is a large facility where multiple people may be waiting for our vehicles. Drivers do not carry people, mobility aids or packages. If a riders condition changes and additional assistance is warranted, a request for door-to-door service or PCA eligibilty may be made by calling 343-7433.
Door-to-Door Riders eligible for door-to-door service meet the driver at the main door, main level, or first floor of a building for an escort to the bus. This may include a flight of stairs so long as the driver remains within sight of the vehicle at all times. Riders should be ready to board the vehicle upon arrival and not rely on the driver to ring door bells or page passengers. There is an exception for people with visual disabilities. For safety and security reasons, drivers are not to leave sight of buses by entering private homes and buildings, using elevators, or navigating multiple levels of stairs. Drivers may enter a lobby of a public facility to announce their presence as long as the vehicle is within sight. Drivers do not carry people, mobility devices, or packages. If this level of assistance is required, an escort should be provided by the passenger. Please remember to wear appropriate clothing and gear for the weather conditions and keep stairways and entryways clear of obstructions.
Demand Trips are scheduled each time transportation is needed. It applies to passengers who travel to different destinations at varied times. Trip requests can be made as many as seven days in advance or as soon as the day before the preferred travel time. Trip requests are coordinated with others to efficiently serve as many persons as possible. Each trip must be scheduled through a phone call to AnchorRIDES Customer Services at 562-8444. Trip requests can not be accommodated on the same day.
If eligible for service under ADA, trips can not be prioritized based on trip purpose. The ADA does not allow this, which means you may book a trip for any reason. AnchorRIDES demand service can be used for any trip purpose, including shopping, medical, social visits, work, and school or training.
If eligible as a senior citizen, age 60+ or the spouse of a senior citizen, trips are limited to the following priorities by trip purpose:
1. Medical and non-emergency health care related appointments
2. Congregate meal sites
3. Adult day centers
4. Employment
5. Volunteer job sites
The above trip purposes for senior do not have a required fare, however, a $3.00 donation ($4.50 in the premium areas) is suggested to help offset costs.
Subscription Service is for passengers who travel to the same place at the same time at least once a week. This service allows riders to take regular trips without telephoning to schedule or confirm each one. Subscription service is available for medical, education or training, or employment trips. Social and shopping trips are not eligible for subscription service.
You may request that regularly scheduled trips be placed on the schedule as subscription service. Riders are picked up at the same time and the same place unless the trip is canceled or changed. Riders who frequently cancel subscription trips may lose their subscription service (see cancellation section).
ADA requires AnchorRIDES to leave 50% of our trip capacity for demand trips. If a trip qualifies for subscription service and no room is available on the schedule, it is placed on a waiting list. As soon as space is available, requests are added to the system schedule and riders are notified. Until that time, riders must call to schedule each trip as a demand trip.
