Anchorage Share-A-Ride works to reduce traffic congestion and improve air quality by promoting alternatives to driving alone. Serving the Municipality of Anchorage since the late 1970s, vanpooling was added in 1995. In addition to offering rideshare services to both commuters and employers, we promote transit, vanpooling, carpooling, bicycling and walking.

Vanpool

Through Share-A-Ride’s vanpool program, eight to 13 people can share the ride to work for $130* a month, a savings of thousands of dollars each year over the cost of driving to work alone. The longer your commute, the more economical a vanpool tends to be. One person usually drives and maintains the van while riders pay a monthly fare. We provide the van and your monthly fare covers insurance, maintenance and fuel costs.

Vanpooling is safe, reliable and the most cost effective means of commuting. Our vans are comfortably equipped with overhead reading lights, individually controlled heat/air vents and reclining high-back seating.

*Actual fare will vary based on choice of mileage program and number of active participants in each vanpool.

Commuter Tax Savings for Employers and Employees

The federal government offers commuter tax benefits allowing some employees to take monthly tax deductions for commuting by vanpool or public transportation. We can assist employers with commuting programs that take advantage of this tax benefit.  Click here for more information on transportation benefits and tax savings.

Carpool/RideMatch

Carpooling is another way you can avoid the aggravation of rush hour traffic while saving money and reducing wear and tear on your vehicle. When you share the ride, you arrive at your destination refreshed and ready to start the day.

We have a long list of people who would like to carpool. Our free, confidential ridematching system matches you with people who live and work near you, with similar work schedules.
