The CTS receives commercial refuse collection vehicles, residential refuse collection vehicles, and household vehicles (cars and pick-ups) from throughout the metropolitan Anchorage area. The refuse is then loaded into large trailers, which are then transported to the Anchorage Regional Landfill for final disposal. The CTS also provides a location for the collection of CFC-containing appliances(refrigerators and freezers), used oil, batteries, and household hazardous waste. Construction and demolition debris, land clearing waste, medical waste and liquid waste are not accepted at this facility. "How Do I Dispose of.....?".
All loads must be covered and secured prior to arrival at the facility. Uncovered or unsecured loads are subject to an additional charge. For more information, refer to AMC 26.80.50 .
The SWS Administration offices are located at 1111 East 56th Avenue.
Residential Solid Waste
The entrance for cars and pickups is located at the intersection of E. 54th and Juneau Street. This is 1 block East of the Old Seward Highway and 1 block South of Anchorage International Airport Road.

Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Household hazardous wastes accepted on
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
CTS is closed on Sundays.

Commercial Solid Waste Disposal
The entrance for commercial vehicles to CTS is located on East 56th Avenue, 1 block East of the Old Seward Highway and 1 block West of Homer Drive. It is open for commercial loads of municipal solid wastes. Disposal rates for commercial vehicles and trailers are $60.00 per ton, plus a $3.00 per ton recycling surcharge, with a $20.00 minimum charge.

Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., CTS is closed on Sundays.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility
Drop off your hazardous household materials including: paint, gasoline, batteries, fertilizers, cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, oil, anti-freeze, and much more. Drop-off services are free for households only(40lbs or less limit); businesses must use the Hazardous Waste Collection Center at the Anchorage Regional Landfill. A hazardous waste pick-up service is also available on a call-in basis. Please call

Both hazardous waste collection locations (ARL & CTS) operate a re-use program. Household items that are more than 50% full and in the original container can be obtained free of charge. So, if you need to pick up some house paint, cleaning supplies, automobile fluids, or lawn and garden chemicals, you may do so while you’re here, depending on availability.
