From the Mayor’s Desk:

I am proud to serve the residents of Anchorage.  Like you, I take great pride in living in this outstanding community where I was born and raised.  We have a strong sense of responsibility to our community, to our families, and to leaving a prosperous future for our children’s children.  I also believe in preserving what is unique about Anchorage, such as our salmon.

Healthy salmon runs in our creeks are the envy of the world and make Anchorage a destination. There is no other place in the world where can you pull on your waders, land a huge King salmon just blocks from the downtown center and walk back to downtown to attend a Broadway play or enjoy a five-star dinner - still in your waders!

Healthy creeks, good water quality and salmon attract tourists and support business interests contributing to our local economy and quality of life.

I am pleased to announce the Salmon in the City initiative designed to capitalize on what is so unique and special about Anchorage.  In addition to sustaining salmon in our creeks, this initiative will improve angler safety and enjoyment, provide for business opportunity, and help us better manage our creeks - to the benefit of property owners, residents, and visitors.

Our creeks connect our neighborhoods underscoring the opportunity for all of Anchorage's residents to be stewards of our salmon and creek resources.

Please join me in celebrating salmon in our city and taking part in activities to ensure that Anchorage remains a salmon-friendly community for years to come.
