Creek Cleanup was first organized in 1984 in response to community concern about the health of our creeks.

This event spawned the Anchorage Waterways Council, a non-profit organization with a mission to protect, restore and enhance the creeks of Anchorage.

The Anchorage Waterways Council continues to organize this event each year through generous donations from the City, individuals, state and federal government, and the business community. Each year up to 1,000 volunteers throughout the community put on boots, grab bags, and hit the creeks to lift the veil of trash that slowly descends upon the creeks each year. Several tons of trash are picked up in any given year.  Clean creeks and good water quality help salmon and other critters thrive in our creeks.
