Sam has been involved in crime prevention since 1977 and volunteers 1000+ hours per year for crime prevention and support of other non-profit groups. He has attended more than 100 crime prevention presentations. Sam is a graduate of the 2001 Academy for Anchorage Coalition of Community Patrols. He has been a member of the Westside Community Patrol since 1995 (president since 1997), and is also a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Trail Watch (serving on the board of directors), Walk for Hope safety committee, Community Based Action for a Safer Society, Anchorage Road Coalition, Weed and Seed committee, Volunteer In Police Services group, and is the safety officer for the Spenard Community Council. Sam also attends meetings for 13 other Community Councils and provides Traffic Safety for the Alaska Torch Run, is a certified member of the Community Emergency Response Team, and has been trained by the Federal Emergency Management Association and Volunteers Organized in Disaster. Sam raced stock cars in Indiana in 1991 and 1992 and he enjoys hunting, fishing, and camping. He is married and has two sons and two daughters.
