Parks and Trails coordinates development of Municipal parks and trails. Development projects include playground design and installation; design, development and construction of amenities in neighborhood, regional and community parks; and trail planning and development within the Municipality of Anchorage.
The Parks and Trails Project Management section primarily supports the planning efforts developed by the Department of Parks and Recreation, but also supports the Project Management and Engineering Department with design, review and inspection of roadside landscaping projects. In addition, the section offers assistance to the community for playground safety inspection services.
Funding sources for park and trail projects are from Municipal GO Park Bonds, federal funding through the TEA-21 Transportation Enhancement Program, State grants and Federal Community Development Block Grants. Parks and Trails Project Management provides both in-house design services as well as project management by contracting engineering and landscape architectural consultants for design of park and trail facilities.
