Public Involvement Overview

Citizen participation in this project has occurred in a number of ways.

First, the Anchorage Citizens Coalition has organized a citizen participation program.  This program provides a forum for information and discussion that is designed to integrate multiple citizen perspectives, minimize polarization, and allow the public to establish consensus wherever possible.  The goal is to ensure that Title 21 implements the goals and objectives of Anchorage's Comprehensive Plan that was adopted in 2001.  Contact the Anchorage Citizens Coalition at 274-2624 for more information or to participate.

Secondly, a Title 21 Rewrite Citizens Advisory Committee provided guidance to the consultants at the beginning of the project.  This committee included representatives from four municipal boards and commissions, community councils, homebuilders, civil contractors, commercial contractors, architects, engineering, landscape architects, planners, Alaska Center for the Environment, Anchorage Citizens Coalition, Anchorage Board of Realtors, and Chambers of Commerce from Anchorage and Chugiak-Eagle River.

In addition to these citizen efforts, the consultants received comments on this project during stakeholder interviews, and continued to receive comments and direction during work sessions of the Municipal Assembly, Planning & Zoning Commission, Platting Board, Zoning Board of Examiners and Appeals, Urban Design Commission, and municipal staff.

Public review and comment has been encouraged throughout the project.  Draft documents have been placed on this website and printed versions of the same documents have been available at the Planning Department, Planning & Development Center, 4700 Elmore Road, Anchorage.

Comments on any draft materials undergoing public review can be provided to the Planning Department via the following means:
