Youth Services

Anchorage Parks and Recreation provides a variety of quality recreation, education, culture, and leisure activities that assist in the development of life enhancing skills for future adults. We provide a well rounded selection of activities, opportunities, and services in a safe non-threatening environment for Anchorage's youth population.

Youth Services Section Strives to:

  • Provide the youth of Anchorage with positive alternatives to drugs, gangs, and other undesirable activities.
  • Grant opportunities for success.
  • Develop a youth recreational program based on partnership and collaboration with other agencies throughout the community, gaining the greatest impact on youth while avoiding duplication of effort.
  • Offer recreational programs that will address the various needs of youth, including their physical, emotional, and interpersonal needs. These programs will indirectly reduce crime and anti-social behavior in the community by at-risk youth.

Examples of Youth Services programs include:

  • Rec and Roll program
  • Hiking
  • Organized open gym
  • Outdoor education
  • Teen volunteer program
