Answers to the most asked questions people have concerning how to appeal parking infractions they felt were unwarranted.

Parking infractions are not criminal offenses in Anchorage. You may appeal your infraction by filing out an AP form, Parking Infraction Appeal, within fifteen (15) days of the issue date of the infraction. The form may be obtained from this website, picked up in person at Anchorage Parking, mailed or faxed to you.

Q: Who issues these infractions?

A: Parking infractions are issued by contracted security or AP lot patrol.

Q: What kind of information do I need to put in my appeal?

A: You must explain all relevant facts and enclose your notice. You must provide a name, address, and phone number for a response. Any pertinent information you wish to have considered (e.g. copy of permit, handicapped placard, proof of payment, etc.) Lack of sufficient information will delay the process.

Q: What defines Improperly Parked Vehicles?

A: Vehicles parked in more than one space, parked in reserved spaces, parked blocking in another vehicle, or oversized vehicles parked in spaces not designated for over sized vehicles.

Q: Why did I get an infraction for double parking, when I had to because of the vehicle next to me?

A: You cannot park improperly, whatever the circumstances.

Q: What if I miss the 15 day appeal deadline?

A: You must pay the infraction, failure to act unless payment in full is received within (30) days of the issue date on the notice, a late penalty of $ 10.00 will added to the remaining amount due. If payment is not received within (60) days, the unpaid amount due and late payment penalty will be sent to a collection agency. The action will increase your costs and may affect your credit.

Q: Who makes the decision regarding my appeal?

A: The Anchorage Parking Director will determine what can be done after reviewing and researching the infraction appeal form.

Q: How will I know the result of my appeal?

A: You will receive a response by mail in a timely manner from the Anchorage Parking Director.

Q: If I submit my appeal form within 15 days of the infraction issue date, does this prevent the $10.00 penalty from being applied?

A: Your appeal does not extend the 30 days you have to pay, the infraction it must be resolved within 30 days of the issue date.

Q: I can't afford the penalty. Can it be waived?

A: Parking infractions may not be dismissed based on your ability to pay.

Q: What happens if I don't pay?

A: Any vehicle with four (4) or more unpaid infractions may result in the vehicle being impounded at the registered owner's expense. The vehicle may be booted or towed. Impunded vehicles will not be released until all notice amounts, penalties, and fees (administrative, collection, impound, boot/towing, and storage) are paid.
