When Anchorage Parking was established, the Assembly conveyed interest in a number of properties being used as public off-street parking by finding the transfer beneficial to the Municipality and in the public interest. They also found the conveyance would further the corporate purpose of AP.
On one parcel, AP constructed the 6th and "H" Street parking garage. On another parcel, AP constructed the 5th and "B" Street parking garage. Each of these facilities provides short-term and long-term parking. However, each garage was constructed with street level retail space as part of the design. The retail space in the 6th and "H" Street parking garage is directly managed by AP. A master lease transfers the retail space in 5th and "B" Street parking garage to the 5th Avenue Mall and the Mall manages the retail space.
The Municipal Assembly transferred the following properties to AP by Ordinance:
-
6th and "H" Street parking garage and Mall
-
7th and "G" Street parking garage
-
5th and "B" Street parking garage
-
3rd Avenue post office parking lot
In addition, the Municipality leased several properties to AP. Lot 5, Block 72, Original Town site was leased on a long-term basis to a private individual before it was conveyed to AP. This individual now leases the property to Nordstrom. Though it is not used as a parking lot. It does generate $28,000 a year in lease payments to AP. Other properties leased to AP include:
-
3rd and "C" Street Howard Johnson parking lot
-
3rd and "E" Street Lower Bowl parking lot
-
"A" and "C" Couplet parking lot
