Municipality of Anchorage All-Hazard Mitigation Plan

Introduction:

The Municipality of Anchorage (MOA) has developed an All-Hazard Mitigation Plan. The goal of the All-Hazard Mitigation Plan is to reduce the amount of damage that may occur during a future disaster. Initially, the plan is focusing on earthquake, wildfires and extreme weather. Eventually, the Plan will expand to address multiple hazards the Municipality may be exposed to.

The Plan was drafted and available for public comment through meetings and submissions on this web site. The final plan was then submitted to the State of Alaska Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for review and approval. The next step was to submit the Plan to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) who also approved the Plan. The final step was to submit the Plan to the Anchorage Assembly for review and approval. On March 29, 2005 the Municipal Assembly adopted the Plan.

The Plan is available to the public on this website. You can view specific portions of the Plan by clicking on that section. You will need Adobe Acrobat to view these files. Note that Section 4, Hazards in Anchorage, is a large file and may take extra time to download.
