Emergency Watch Neighborhood Preparedness Program

The number one citizen request to the Municipality of Anchorage Office of Emergency Management is for disaster preparedness materials. The Emergency Watch Program responds to these requests and provides a neighbor led community education initiative designed to prepare neighborhoods for the reality that city services will be overextended for up to seven days after a disaster.
The Office of Emergency Management provides citizens that volunteer to be a neighborhood leader with an Emergency Watch Starter Toolkit and a 2-hour orientation at the Emergency Operations Center. These leaders are then asked to hold one short planning meeting, and one annual exercise in their neighborhood. These meetings include information about personal disaster preparation and developing a neighborhood emergency plan.
Call 343-1402 to find out when the next Neighborhood Leader Orientation will be held at the Office of Emergency Management located at 1305 E St. or email emergencywatch@muni.org and include your name and phone number in the text.
