Planning is one of the most important activities conducted by the Office of Emergency Management. Typical emergency plans identify a function, assign agency responsibilities, and establish direction and control aspects. Appropriate personnel are trained to these plans and then the plans are evaluated through training or exercises that result in making modifications and revisions to the plans as needed. All plans are developed consistent with the National Incident Management System and the State of Alaska Emergency Response Plan to maximize local capabilities.
Anchorage Emergency Operations Plan is the plan that guides all other local plans, policies, and procedures related to emergency operations within the Municipality. The plan also has annexes that define specific disaster functions including evacuation, animals, and sheltering.
Anchorage All-Hazards Mitigation Plan identifies strategies and specific projects to reduce the amount of damage that may occur during a future disaster.
Municipal Continuity of Operations Planning ensures that municipal agencies will be able to continue to deliver essential services during a disaster.
