Exploring City Government


More than two thousand Anchorage citizens work for the executive branch of the city in one of its thirteen departments or four divisions. The mayor, and his staff, oversee all aspects of the executive branch.

The city provides many essential services through these departments and divisions such as traffic control, the water and wastewater utility, parks, and public safety.
